Radio Amateur Licence

If you are visiting Hong Kong, you may apply Amateur Licence from the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA). You may visit the follow website to obtain more information.

What is the different between ASL or ATO?

Amateur Station Licence (ASL)

l         HKD $150 for 1 year, A4 size 6 pages Licence

l         ASL let you to possess, establish and maintain an amateur transmitting and receiving station for radio communications.

 

Authority To Operate (ATO)

l         HKD $160 for 5 years, A credit card size green paper

l         ATO let you to operate licensed Amateur Radio equipment

 

Tips:

l         If you would like to own your station equipment and operate amateur radio station using your own callsign, you can apply for ASL.

l         If you would like to operate licenced amateur radio station using your own callsign, you can apply for ATO

 

Callsign

l         The visitor callsign will be VR2/ XXXXXX (Your own callsign)

l         If you have obtained Hong Kong Identity Card, you may apply for VR2 _ _ _ callsign

 

Buying Amateur Station Equipment

As a shopping paradise, you may find a lot of reasonable amateur radio products in Hong Kong. You can shop around in the following place,

l         Apliu Street, Sham Shui Po (By MTR to Sham Shui Po Station, Exit C2)

l         Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui (By MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui or Tsim Sha Tsui East Station, Exit M2)

 

Visiting Local Amateurs / Club Station

l         You may approach us by email to 0910excom@harts.org.hk before you are going to visit Hong Kong.

l         You may also join our Monthly Meeting in every second Tuesday around 1900 ¡V 2030 (HKT) at Chan Hing Social Service Centre, Mong Kok Kai-Fong Association, 45 Fuk Tsun Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon.

l         Due to limited of resource, HARTS does not have a Club House, therefore, we are currently unable to set up radio station for visiting HAM to operate.
